Risk Engineering & Consulting Services

With our Risk Engineering & Consulting service, we support you in optimally securing the value and reducing the potential risks in your company.

Risk engineering activities support companies of all sizes in identifying, consciously managing and minimizing their risks. In the course of this, security for long-term continuity is specifically increased throughout the entire company and loss events are reduced or even avoided. A clear understanding of existing risks in the company and those that need to be reduced in a targeted manner is essential in order to be able to work preventively on improvements.

With our team of experts from the technical, scientific and economic fields, we are the leading provider in Austria of risk consulting services for a wide range of commercial and industrial enterprises: especially with regard to fire protection agendas (organizational, structural and technical), natural hazards, business interruption issues (customer and supplier chains), process risks, etc. Through the interaction of employees with different professional and personal backgrounds, we can respond to the diverse needs of our customers and serve them in the best possible way.

Our activities are based on the current (fire protection) standards and guidelines. In doing so, we focus on the property and business interruption protection of our customers, which places the protection of the company’s assets and their continued existence at the center of our actions.

What we do...

Risk Consult’s risk engineers serve their clients worldwide primarily from their headquarters in Vienna. If your company has several locations in different countries, this has the advantage of an objective, cross-location analysis, whereby the risk engineer can accurately map the interrelationships and networks between the locations.

In Risk Engineering & Consulting we support companies (large and small) to manage their risks and to live the preventive approach of risk avoidance. We deal with operational and strategic risk management and subsequently with the implementation of risk management systems.

We support our customers in dealing with…

  • insurable and non-insurable risks and
  • the increasing dynamics of risks
  • We conduct risk inspections and provide support in identifying and minimizing risks in the process
  • We follow the continuous risk management cycle (portfolio analysis – risk survey – recommendation/measure monitoring – renewed risk evaluation)

The aim of our activities is to optimize the business risks of our customers and to create a healthy basis for maintaining and securing business operations in the long term. Together with our customers, we develop suitable measures to prevent damage and emergencies or to reduce the scope of such an event as best as possible.

In the insurance environment, the risk transfer of remaining risks, e.g. by outsourcing them or taking out a specific insurance policy, is a key element here. However, the company’s remaining risk and its consequences must be highlighted, understood and proactively managed.

The Risk Engineering Team provides support in identifying and assessing corporate risks and identifies loss prevention measures, working with you to develop implementation concepts and options. Depending on the underlying interest and customer-specific requirements, the focus can be placed on different topics.

How we do it...

As a rule, we visit your company on site in order to objectively identify and subsequently analyze the existing risk potentials. Together with you, we develop improvement proposals for risk reduction and avoidance, which you then also receive in written form (so-called risk report). These measures/recommendations offer the opportunity to improve the risk situation directly on site in your company and to reduce the probability of losses occurring.

Risk engineering is the key asset of successful companies with a holistic risk management strategy that brings decisive advantages for safe action.

FAQ for policyholders/companies to be visited

A risk survey is usually commissioned by your property and business interruption insurer to ascertain the risk situation (i.e. degree of protection) in your company. In the course of this, we collect essential information that has an influence on insurable risks (among others, these are topics in the areas of fire protection, natural hazards, burglary-theft, economic factors, etc., etc.) in order to create an objective report of the circumstances. Essential for you are the recommendations contained therein for further improvement of your degree of protection at the site as well as for the insurer the derivation of major loss calculations.

You get an objective view from the outside which risks exist or can arise in your company and learn from the risk engineer how to improve them. The risk engineer draws on his or her own personal experience, but also on the knowledge of our own claims department and the insurance company.

  • The risk survey of your site starts with a management interview in which different topics are discussed/mapped to get a comprehensive overview of your company. The background of these question areas represents namely the property and business interruption protection. For this purpose, it is desirable to initially gain an insight into the procedures and processes by means of a short presentation of the company being visited: Customer and supplier structures, products and their contribution to sales, sales in general, production-related alternative possibilities, storage values and structures, infrastructure (including compressed air, power supply, EDP, etc.), processes, procedures and their equipment (machinery), organizational/structural and technical fire protection, natural hazards, burglary/theft, etc.
  • This is followed by a site inspection of all areas of the site (including outdoor facilities, roof, infrastructure rooms, basement, etc.), ideally following the production flow. Photographing equipment/installations, building structures, storage situations, etc. allows for subsequent documentation in the risk report and better visual representation of the described elements for the reader.
  • Afterwards, a final discussion is held with the participants or managers to summarize the impressions of the meeting & inspection and to explain the risk-improving recommendations in advance. Further steps are also jointly coordinated (including information on the subsequent monitoring process and agreement on contact persons in this regard, etc.).

Ideally, the following contact persons are available to us during the course of the project – ideally on call: Management (at least for the initial and final meeting – preferably also during the entire process), fire protection officer, maintenance officer, IT officer, technical manager.

A so-called Risk Survey usually takes half a day (~6 hours) depending on the scope and (documentation) preparation on site. In order to make the visit as time-efficient as possible, it is advantageous to prepare the requested documents and ideally send them to us digitally in advance.

You will receive a comprehensive risk report afterwards, which describes your company in general including the topics specifically discussed on site. An essential element of this is the “Recommendations” chapter, which contains the risk-improving measures your company will ideally work on in the future to better protect your assets.

  • Generally, the cost of this service is covered by your property/business interruption insurer. The effort involved depends on the size and complexity of the company, the location itself and the specific requirements profile.
  • Inasmuch as you would like to commission a risk survey yourself in order to obtain an external, objective view of your company, then please feel free to contact us and we can prepare a targeted offer for you. To do so, send us an e-mail at risk-engineering@riskconsult.at

Your data is of course safe with us. Any documentation you provide to us will be filed for internal use only and a single third party (your property/business interruption insurer) will be provided with the results of the risk analysis. If a separate non-disclosure agreement is required, this must be made available to Risk Consult at least two weeks before the inspection date, as it must be signed by the management and legally verified.
